Notification of Acceptance or Denial
The Department of Communication does not have a fixed schedule of dates for acceptance or denial of applicants. The burden of responsibility rests with the applicant to see that all supporting materials are submitted as early as possible to enable the admissions committee to make a thorough and fair evaluation. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Students are encouraged to check online to view which materials have been received and listed on your supporting materials page. If you need assistance, please contact Dr. Jennifer Gibbs (gibbs@comm.ucsb.edu), Director of Graduate Studies.
Q: When can I expect to receive an invitation to attend the Graduate Open House, a waitlist notification, or a denial?
Generally, the Graduate Admissions Committee will begin sending out invitations to attend the Department's Graduate Open House in the beginning of February. Applicants placed on the waitlist or who received a denial will be notified in mid-February. Admission offers are extended in the beginning of March and no later than April 1st. We have a waiting list, but there is no guarantee to waitlist applicants that there will be a decision made by the Council of Graduate Schools deadline of April 15th.
