Petitioning EAP Courses

EAP courses that have been pre-approved for major credit by petition can be found in our Pre-Approved EAP Database: https://comm.ucsb.edu/undergrad/study-abroad/course-list. You cannot petition an EAP course that does not appear on our pre-approved list. Students must submit a petition to apply EAP coursework toward their major requirements (they do not apply automatically just because they are pre-approved).

Petitioning courses from other instututions (non-EAP)

Pre-major or major courses from another institution must be pre-approved by the department prior to submitting this petition. If you are unsure about the status of a course approval, please contact the Communication Undergraduate Advising Office.  

Petitioning UCSB Courses

A maximum of eight units of UCSB coursework outside of the Comm department can be petitioned for UD Communication major credit. The approved courses are listed on our major requirements sheet.

Once you've verified course(s) pre-approval, please submit the following Google Form Petition for Degree Requirements for each course in order to apply them to your Communication major requirements. Petitions can only be submitted for courses that have already been completed.

Please allow up to one month for processing time. Students who have declared degree candidacy will have expedited processing. Do not submit duplicate petitions for the same course. Doing so will result in a delay in processing time. 

You will not receive a rsponse from your petition submissin. Petitions are processed in order of graduation data, so you may not see a petition reflected on GOLD until you are close to graduating. If you are submitting a petition for a pre-comm course, it will not be processed until after you receive your Welcome to the Major email.

If you took a class P/NP toward the pre-major requirements prior to deciding to pursue the Comm major, please submit a separate Grading Option petition found here: https://forms.gle/LYwU1Rt7xNHRsWJy9
