Walid Afifi has been elected as 2nd Vice President of the National Communication Association (NCA). Prior to his election to this leadership position, he served as Chair of the Interpersonal Communication division (2004), as a member of the Units Task Force (2009-2011), the NCA Bylaws Task Force (2011-2012), and the Task Force on Inclusivity in the Discipline (2014-2017), and as Chair of the Task force on the NCA Center for Community, Collaboration and Change (2017-2019). Prof. Afifi will transition to the position of NCA Vice-President in 2022, and NCA President in 2023. He will serve as conference planner for the 2022 National Communication Association conference in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Afifi is the first UCSB Communication Department faculty member who will serve as President of the National Communication Association; six department faculty have served as Presidents of the International Communication Association (C. Stohl (2012), Rice (2006), Putnam (1999), Giles (1998), Chaffee (1982), and Harwood (1955)). Congratulations!
